Clearing the way for a major infrastructure project.
Our crews have been hard at work on the I-81 expansion in western Virginia, one of the larger infrastructure projects underway in the region. This multi-year effort brings demanding conditions and a changing construction sequence, and we are proud to be helping clear the way for its initial phase.
The scope: many work areas along one corridor.
The job involves large-acreage, multi-phase clearing and grubbing along a six-lane highway: roughly 50 acres spread across eight miles. It is made up of many separate work areas, requiring repeated equipment moves within the project as work progresses down the corridor.
Those mobilizations are limited to nighttime. Our crews plan each move around that window and stay flexible as the work advances.
Technical conditions on the ground.
Steep slopes, rocky terrain and tight access shape the work. Mature hardwoods overhang the road, while some cutting areas sit near overhead power and railroad lines. Live highway traffic adds another constraint to the technical work.
Adapting to the work our partners need.
A corridor like this has many moving pieces. We have taken on the technical areas, delivered technically proficient work and adapted to changing project needs along the way. Coordinating equipment movements within the nighttime window is part of keeping the larger construction sequence moving.
